The Lancet Commission
on Precision Health
Many of the world’s most common and serious diseases (such as heart disease, mental health disorders, and cancer) don’t affect everyone in the same way. The causes and treatment responses can vary widely between individuals and across populations. Yet most healthcare systems still take a one-size-fits-all approach, limiting how effective and fair they can be.
The Lancet Commission on Precision Health aims to change this by developing prevention and care strategies
that make healthcare more effective and equitable worldwide.

Precision health focuses on minimizing errors and improving accuracy in medical decisions and health recommendations. It seeks to maximize efficacy, cost-effectiveness, safety, access, and adherence for those in need compared with contemporary evidence-based medicine. Precision health emphasizes tailoring diagnostics or therapeutics (prevention or treatment) to subgroups of populations sharing similar characteristics.
